BUILDING SLOW TWITCH EMPATHY
Our Mission:
Providing athletes engaged in endurance races, expeditions, or adventure sports an outlet to raise money, awareness, or directly contribute to a cause that provides the intrinsic motivation needed to achieve beyond self. A conduit between professional and amatuer athletes and the communities they care about; to enable people and empower partnerships with other nonprofits, creating unique opportunities for philanthropic project design and implementation.
Our Vision:
Believing in the great personal and community impact of project based models such as the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, the Project Corps is focused on efforts that are smaller and shorter in duration but catered to individual athletes or adventurers and their inspiration. When ultrarunners, climbers, alpinists, adventurers, and extreme sport enthusiasts travel to locations across the United States and abroad, we wish to connect them to the accompanying communities or land in need. As they train and “project” their next adventure, we hope to facilitate an accompanying service project. We will help them “project” this in partnership with other nonprofit organizations or through individual fundraising, design, and implementation. The passion put forth in preparation for the adventure/race/expedition can be mirrored by one of service.
The Project Corps hopes to fulfill a need to connect more people to service projects, and looks to take advantage of a community characterized by grit, determination, and self sacrifice. We hope to create from this community a movement of athletes willing to give back on a regular basis to the communities who host their everyday adventures. A movement willing to push the limits of human endurance alongside those of land conservation and community empowerment. A movement building slow twitch muscles and slow twitch empathy.
